www.genuki.org.uk the premier UK genealogical web site. Covers every county in the UK with online trade directories, gazetteers, information on places, libraries, archives, censuses etc. etc.

www.cyndislist.com  US based site covering the whole world. Has an enormously useful A-Z subject list with over 200,000 links to every possible genealogical topic.

www.familysearch.org  Family Search, the LDS genealogy site with over 400 million names on this immense database.

www.rootsweb.com  Rootsweb, an immense US genealogy co-operative with links to many other projects such as the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild and FreeBMD. Has over 27,000 mailing lists through which you can communicate with other family historians.

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  GRO Scotalnd's database of Births, Marriages, Deaths and Census.

www.irishorigins.com/  Irish Genealogy free search engine - 3 million names.

www.nationalarchives.gov.uk  the National Archives site with links to genealogical resources including the 1901 census.

www.familyrecords.gov.uk  a major portal site, linking to the websites of the UK's major archives and record offices, including the Family Records Centre's own website.

Births, Marriages and Deaths:

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com  volunteers who are putting some of the GRO indexes on the web. Over 75 million records are on line so far from 1837-1902.
